I was very honored when the head of the Chicago Blues Festival - Barry Dolins asked me to perform and play Bass with two of the existing fathers of the Blues. Honeyboy Edwards and Homesick James. This show was one of the highlights of my music career and made the 2002 Chicago Blues Festival a very special day for me.
I met Honeyboy in the late 70's
on a Sunday night after my gig with Big Smokey Smothers. I never realised till
lately what a connection he had to Charley Patton, Robert Johnson and the great
Delta Bluesmen. I did not start playing with Honeyboy on a gig till the 90's.
In the 80's I was on a tour in Italy playing Bass with Big Jack Johnson and
the Oil Men. That night in Varese Italy the rain was so bad they had to stop
the outdoor festival. I will never forget how Honeyboy took the crowd into a
building and entertained the rain soaked people and mesmorized the Italians
with his playing.
